Race number collection on the night
Please note that you must confirm your entry and collect your race number from Race HQ on the evening of the race. No race numbers will be posted.
Please allow enough time to park your car, walk to the Race HQ (note its location at Swalwell Juniors Football Club), collect your number and be at the start in plenty of time. (The start and finish lines are right beside the HQ on the Derwent Line, so only a very short walk.)
Entries on the night
We will post information once online bookings have closed about whether there will be any on-the-night places. If there are race places available, then they are usually available on the night from 6pm, on a first come, first served basis. All entries must be made by 6.45pm, if capacity not reached sooner. Please note that we do our utmost to provide all our finishers’ with their gift, but can only guarantee it for those who book in advance. Cash or cheque only. £19 (£17 for affiliated runners).

Our Race HQ is the primary point to report any problems, lost children, accidents etc., as well as for collecting race numbers, changing facilities and refreshments.
There is free car parking in the following locations:
Swalwell Juniors Football Club (Spa Well car park, NE21 6JA, off A694, right next to Race HQ). This includes a car park behind the club building itself; follow the directions from marshals.
Alternative car parks: Winlaton Mill Car Park – signposted ‘Land of Oak & Iron Heritage Centre – (NE21 6RU, off A694, approx. 8 mins walk to HQ), Dam Head Car Park (NE21 6JA, off A694, approx. 10 mins walk to HQ).
Do not drop off or stop on the busy A694 road.
There is the bus stop directly outside Swalwell Juniors Football Club on the A694 (Spa Well Road). This road is served by a number of buses, including the 45/46 and 47 buses. For more information, check with Nexus Journey Planner.
Toilets, changing facilities and baggage
Toilets and changing facilities are available at Swalwell Juniors Football Club. Baggage storage at Race HQ, belongings left at owner’s own risk.
This trail race explores Gateshead’s lovely Derwent Valley and is approx 5.5 miles. The race starts and finishes on the Derwent Line, right next to Swalwell Juniors Football Club, Derwenthaugh Park. The undulating mixed-terrain course includes sections of the Derwent Line and footpaths in local woodlands and fields and alongside the River Derwent. There is a short hill section near the start of the course, which was new for 2018, and returns this year.

There is one water station (at Lockhaugh Farm) on the course, which is fully marked and marshaled by volunteers from Derwent Valley Running Club.
Please note there are also a couple of kissing gates on the route. The route is also open to other users, including bikes and horses.
What is included in your entry?
Chip-timing, finishers’ gift, water station, free parking, changing facilities, fully marked and marshaled course.
Prizes will be awarded to the First, Second and Third Male and Female, First Over 40 Male and Female, and First Mixed Team. Spot prizes will be given out to a range of runners at the finish line.
Prize giving will take place in Race HQ after the race. The paying bar will be open for refreshments.
