Airborne! George Ogle Memorial Race 2019
About the race
The George Ogle Memorial Race is the perfect way to spend a summer evening, with plenty of fellow competitors for some serious competition, but also the space to find your own pace. We hope you’ll join us in 2022. All speeds and styles welcome.
The 5.5-mile route explores the Derwent Valley, taking runners to places other races don’t reach. Not only the fast sections of surfaced trail on the Derwent Line, including over Seven Arches Viaduct, but also on footpaths that climb above the Line and down along the River Derwent in the meadows area beneath it (so not all flat).
Here’s a video of the course.
Course
2019 was the tenth year of this trail race – it explores Gateshead’s lovely Derwent Valley in the Land of Oak & Iron. The race is approximately 5.5 miles and starts and finishes at Swalwell Juniors Football Club, Derwenthaugh Park, with free parking. The undulating mixed-terrain course includes sections of the Derwent Line and footpaths in local woodlands and fields and alongside the River Derwent. Look out for the hill section near the start! It is organised by Derwent Valley Running Club. The race is chip-timed and all online entrants will receive a finisher’s gift.
Check out the video of the route.
