Covid-19: Return to training

Guidance graphic

22 October 2020: Social runs are now permitted, as long as they follow the Rule of Six and people observe social distancing.  Updated info on social sessions to follow.  You can read the latest details from England Athletics here:

Update on 18 September

Our training can still take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but in consideration of the local community and to help keep everyone safe, we are going to avoid as much as possible residential streets. We will keep members updated at the beginning of each week about meeting locations. We may sometimes run on the Derwent Walk which will require a head torch – we’ll let people know in advance if this is the case. Keep bearing with us as we’ll continue to review our sessions in case further adjustments are needed.

All members are reminded to be mindful of social distancing and follow the guidance at all our sessions and unfortunately, we are not permitted to meet each other outside of the structured sessions for runs.

Before training

You need to check that we have your up-to-date contact details in case anyone tests Covid-19 positive and the Test and Trace Service needs to contact you. We use England Athletics’ database, so go on to its website and check your personal profile, in particular your phone and email contact details, are correct. This is an absolute requirement before you attend your first session and your personal responsibility.

To update your details log on here:

You will need your URN; this is the number on your membership card and a password.  Please do your best to update your details in this way to reduce our admin, but if for any reason you have a problem doing so, then you can email your phone contact numbers to our membership sec, Jenny, who will update your profile on your behalf. It is also everyone’s responsibility (athletes/coaches and leaders) to not attend club training sessions if they have symptoms (or suspect they have symptoms), or have tested positive for Covid-19, or have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19.  We appreciate that there will be other bugs and viruses over the coming months that are not Covid-19 but manifest themselves in a similar way, which may mean you will have to miss sessions.  If in doubt, please stay at home.

And obviously, make sure you follow Government advice on good hygiene.

Latest government guidance on symptoms are here:

At training

Registration: Arrive a few minutes before the session start time if you can – one of the leaders will need to take a register, so this will help them do so.  If you are late, it is your responsibility to let the run leader know, so they can add your name to the register.  We will store these on a Google form for at least 14 days to conform with government guidance.

During session: We need to continue to maintain two metres distancing at all times. Routes are planned with this in mind, but please also do your bit.  Be aware of your surroundings, do not block pavements and give plenty of space to pedestrians.

…Oh and don’t forget to have fun and work hard!

After training

If you do test positive for Covid-19 (fingers crossed this won’t ever happen) and have been to a session in the previous 14 days, please let us know.  You will also need to complete England Athletic’s COVID 19 Form if tested positive within 48 hours of a training session or running event. Obviously, this is in addition to assisting the government’s Test and Trace Service.
